Hello from still very busy Penrhiw and Cefn Coed. Haymaking continues but, having filled every corner of every shed with hay bales, we have to resort to black plastic for the hay meadows. The old hay meadows are not mown until July to allow the old grasses and flowers to set seed. We have to ted (turn) the mown grass twice to scatter the seed before we bale. So we have some lovely haylage full of lovely old fashioned herbs, flowers and grasses - the horses will love it !!
The peas and barley silage is almost ready - a very different crop to the above - this is rocket fuel for the weaned calves next January.
Markets this weekend - Rhiwbina on Friday, Usk on Sat and Riverside on Sunday
PS Exciting horsey news - Flo scanned in foal - due June 2020 - a long wait .....
