Latest August News from Penrhiw Farm

Hello.  The grass is still growing ( and it still rains !!) and we are looking forward to some warm dry weather now to allow us to finish the combining and to rescue the straw.  The wheat is overripe and will start to shed if not harvested very soon.  Before the rain, we baled some golden coloured straw and combined the oats at 15% moisture.  Now the straw is a musty blackey brown and we will be lucky to combine at 20 %.

Penrhiw thoughts and activities revolve around the annual TB test.  Done over 2 weeks in 2 locations - week 1 all sorted and all was well.  In the middle of week 2 - fingers crossed for a similar result.
Markets this weekend - the usual in Cardiff - Rhiwbina on Fridays, Riverside on Sundays; Usk and Tonteg on Saturday.  Caerphilly  8th September.
