News from Celia at Penrhiw Farm
I hope this gets to you all – a new look virgin media web mail (and I had only just got used to the old one !). Markets this coming weekend: Rhiwbina on Friday, Usk on Saturday and Riverside on Sunday with our usual range of organic meat – beef, lamb, pork, mutton and chickens as well as faggots and pies. We will be attending a few extra markets in the run up toChristmas – I will post details of these on the web site and in a later email.
I am NOT going to talk about the weather (although I could !). Good job we live on top of a hill ! Instead I will tell you about John's 2 days away from the farm at the Winter Fair at Builth Wells. He had the honour of judging the Welsh mountain breeds section of the finished lambs – there were lots of classes with lots of competitors in each class. He thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I hope he did a good job. He was really pleased to hear that the commentating team on S4C had picked the badger faced lambs as champions just as he did ! It was back to the real world this morning – I had tried to keep all the livestock at Penrhiw fed, watered and laying on clean beds in his absence but I think we were all glad to see the extra pair of hands ! I coped and the shiny new gates are still intact !!
Hope to see you on the weekend

Message from Julie McGowan, Usk Memorial Hall
At a recent meeting of the committee, it was
agreed to ask all users not to allow access through the fire doors into the
hall during the winter months, but use the main door only as the public
entrance -which includes visitors to the market. Visitors coming in
constantly through the two fire doors in wet weather adds enormously to the
dirtiness of the floor, whereas if they come in through the main doors, they
walk onto the thicker carpet which was laid specially to absorb wet and
muddiness. I hope you will be able to comply with this request through these
months of bad weather.
Christmas collection market
This is to remind you there will be the usual collection market on December 23rd 4.00pm - 6.00pm in the Usk Millenium Hall (immediately behind the Memorial Hall). There will be some last minute shopping but in order to ensure your favourite items it is recommended to order now. The list includes turkeys, meats, vegetables, Beverly's cakes etc.
Also to note that Black Mountain Smokery will not be at the market on 19th December but there will be order forms at the market for collection on the 23rd December.
